Flexibility
Learning online allows students to go at their own pace to suit themselves.
Students online receive the same lectures, slide shows and demonstrations as given in a class. The great advantage is that they can repeat these as many times as required, unlike a class situation where being absent means missing out on information.
Everyone learns at a different rate so doing online studies does not pressurize you to try to keep up with other people. If you are working, have children or other commitments you could study when time allows. Assignments can be done when time and models permit. Marking and feedback are done in the same way as a class situation, being equally as effective.
Cost and Time Saving
The cost of travelling to and from classes is saved by online studies as well as all the wasted time in congested traffic. Students living faraway from a training school have to also pay for accommodation and maybe waste time and money travelling home at weekends.
Studying online means anyone, living anywhere, can study to become a make-up artist.
Artistic Classes
The idea of attending a class with a group of students with similar interests, could appear more attractive than online training. However, the realities of an artistic class environment are often overlooked. Here are just some of the disadvantages – students who are shy or lack confidence, often feel intimidated or overshadowed by those who are naturally more artistic, confident and learn skills quicker.
Instead of enjoying the journey of artistic growth and experimenting, they feel embarrassed to try their own ideas. They rather imitate the lecturer’s example and later are still repeating this same application because it is easier, safer and more comfortable. Those who employ the services of make-up artists want art – not duplication!
Being online, students are less intimidated by comparisons, so are far more willing to submit their attempts for feedback. As a result, our lecturers can set far more challenging and stimulating tasks and assignments.
Everybody learns more by making mistakes than by not trying at all! Our online submission system offers all personality types the medium through which to try out their ideas, learning and growing in the process. The feedback received is based on their own attempts, not on duplicating what the students beside them are producing. Lecturers have found it far more effective to inspire and grow make-up artists through personal feedback online than in a class environment.
Students have different levels of dedication to training.
Where classes are held daily at set times, it can be very annoying and frustrating to those who have arrived on time and are keen to begin the class to have to wait for less dedicated students. Some students can be disruptive in classes as they are not really committed to learning to becoming a make-up artist. Artistic personalities can often be temperamental resulting in petty squabbles and more valuable time wasted.
Finding Models
Finding a model to bring to a set class time was a continual frustration for both students and lecturers.
To practice make-up skills requires working on models of different ages with varying skin-tones and features. Often students found it difficult to bring models to set class times, so teachers would allow students to pair up and work on each other. Students quickly become familiar with their faces and features, resulting in limited exposure, instead of searching for new and challenging faces to work on.
When external models were arranged for assignments or exams, these models often cancelled at the last minute or failed to arrive, leaving students frustrated and stressed.
Working online allows the student to arrange times which suit the prospective model. They may be working, studying or have other commitments, so applications can be done at any time including evenings or week-ends. This allows online students a HUGE advantage in finding the wide variety of models needed for successfully practising to become a make-up artist.
